Let them eat cake

A page from Lockdown Diary:
“Let them eat cake” became one of the most influential quotes during the French Revolution that summarized the injustice, dissatisfaction, and discrimination faced by the people. Some countries have their own version of this quote. In Nepal, my father told me a similar story about the Late King Trivuwan. It was this presumed quote by him ” ओहो,जनता ले दूध भात पनि खाना पाएनन्?” now, let’s be clear, Marie-Antoinette, queen of France never said that and I doubt king Trivuban said that either. These quotes reflect the disconnection between the aristocrats and the plight of the people. Now, Let’s look at what is happening in Nepal. A few days back, on the constitution day of Nepal, there was a huge celebration by the government, and on the same ground, divided by trees, our Nepali brothers and sisters were fighting hunger. Unfortunately, the government didn’t think for the underprivileged and poor FIRST. So far we had 2 lockdowns, with no proper measures or policies to address the underprivileged’s needs. it looked like the country belonged to a handful of privileged people who could afford 5 more lockdowns like this. Back in June, few empaths raised their voice for the plight of people but they were dismissed as “Indian agents, traitors” We have a voice now because of social media. There are numerous proofs that the government listens when some news goes viral. So, is this the fault of the government ONLY? or we are responsible as well? .When we are privileged and have a voice and yet not say anything against the injustice, we are as oppressive as the oppressor. Therefore, our silence and our inaction are the ultimate crimes against humanity.
